WELCOMING THE McCARY FAMILY

Drs. Phil and Danielle McCary have spent many years building a successful practice, Laurelhurst Chiropractic, in NE Portland.  When the opportunity to join in.MVMNT arose, the prospect of raising their young family back in Canada alongside Danielle’s parents and extended family was irresistible. This transition has been a significant and heartfelt one for their family of four, as they look forward to becoming an integral part of the local community and the in.MVMNT team. 

EXPERTISE AND SPECIALIZATIONS

Dr. Phil McCary brings with him extensive experience treating traumatic injuries and providing acute care, particularly for patients recovering from motor vehicle and workplace accidents. His focus on post-accident rehabilitation and his life-long dedication to helping patients regain their quality of life, make him an invaluable addition to our practice.

Dr. Danielle McCary holds special interest and focus in pediatric and pre/post-natal care.  She has gained substantial experience co-treating and collaborating with the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) pediatric and maternal medicine teams in Portland, OR. Her compassionate approach and deep understanding of the unique needs of families, children and expectant mothers, will be a tremendous asset to our practice and our community.  

Phil and Danielle have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to their patients and community in Portland, and they bring that same passion and dedication to Trail and the surrounding areas.  Their decision to join in.MVMNT is rooted in their desire to become deeply invested in this community, and to contribute to the health and well-being of our existing patient-base and future clientele for many years to come. 

A TIME OF TRANSITION

While the addition of Drs. Phil and Danielle McCary is a major cause for celebration, it also marks an important time of transition for Dr. Emery. Unbeknownst to the public and patient base, Dr. Scott Emery has been looking forward to the opportunity to open up and be fully transparent about a diagnosis that he has been living with for several years called MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy with Lactic Acidosis and Stroke-like episodes). 

This is a challenging  and uncertain journey that he faces with his two older brothers, and is the same rare genetic disease that he lost his mother to far too early.  Due to the onset of symptoms associated with this severe and rapidly progressing mitochondrial disease, it has become crucial that Dr. Emery begin to pivot and focus on his own health and well-being.  This disease has now started to impact his health, quality of life and longevity, and as a result, Dr. Emery must begin the process of scaling back his hands-on practice over the next few years.  

Since his diagnosis more than five years ago, Scott and his wife Julia have developed the most ideal succession plan for the evolution of the clinic. These are decisions that they have carefully considered and they are grateful and proud to be moving forward with such a tremendous support system in place.  

“It has been bittersweet to watch this plan come together.  With this team, I am certain that the highest level of care and support will continue for our community for many years to come,” says Dr. Emery.  “The decision to start stepping back from my hands-on practice has not been an easy one.  I am confident, however, that the addition of two of my closest friends and most revered colleagues to our already incredible team of professionals will not only maintain but enhance the level of care we provide.”

Alongside our new additions, our existing team remains intact and will continue to provide the exceptional care you have come to expect. As always, our team of Patient Care Coordinators works tirelessly to be certain that every individual that walks through our doors has a first class healthcare experience.  Sara Howard and Kat Lewin truly are outstanding and exemplary in their skillful commitment to this clinic. They are both the shining stars and backbone of our day-to-day smooth operations. 

Dr. Stephanie Church continues to grow her chiropractic practice, offering patients her extensive knowledge and expertise.  Her dedication to patient-centered care, empowering health in others, and her contagious passion for life and this community, continue to make her an integral and celebrated part of our team.  

Julia Emery (Maniecki) continues to evolve her TCM/Acupuncture practice, providing holistic and integrative treatments that have wide reaching benefits for all physical, mental and emotional ailments, as well as their complex inter-relationships. Julia’s aptitude and artistry for her craft, nurturing demeanor, and deep commitment to guiding individuals on their quest for best health and self, make her an asset to every healing journey.

We are also super excited to announce the addition of Katrina Lortie, R. Ac to our clinical team starting November of 2025. Katrina is thrilled to be mentoring under Julia’s guidance and further developing her Acupuncture practice with the team at in.MVMNT. WELCOME TO THE CLINICAL TEAM KATRINA!!

As the new year approaches, Dr. Emery will slowly and gradually begin scaling back from hands-on patient care due to his health condition.  A multi-phased plan, spanning several years, is now in place whereby he will lean on his trusted colleagues to support his transition.  This ensures that patients have ongoing access to the same quality of care with even greater availability going forward.  As long as his health allows,  he will continue to practice and be involved in clinic operations in whatever capacity he can.

We are immensely proud to have assembled the best possible team of long-established medical professionals!  Now offering four highly skilled and specialized Chiropractors with an incredibly broad expertise, we are certain that all needs of the community can be met and surpassed.  

EMBRACING THE FUTURE TOGETHER

As we look to the future, we are ecstatic about all the possibilities that lie ahead for the Institute of Movement.  We are incredibly grateful and touched by all the support we have, and continue to receive.  Scott and Julia may now shoulder the load with the help of amazing friends and colleagues, and can rest assured that what they have worked so hard to create, will only get better with time. 

This new chapter signifies a massive leap forward in our ability to reduce wait times, expand the exceptional care we provide, address a broader range of health concerns, and ensure that all current and new patients have prompt access to the highest level of treatment and ongoing care.
